Southport Budgerigar Society is a small society located in the seaside town of Southport in Merseyside. The Society was founded some 40 years ago with its main aim to bring together people who are interested in breeding and exhibiting budgerigars. The Society has members from all walks of life who have various levels of interest in Budgerigars. This ranges from members who just enjoy to keep a few pet budgerigars in an aviary in the garden through to those who breed for exhibition purposes
Meetings are held once a month on the second Wednesday. The meeting are held at the The Shakespeare, Scarisbrick New Rd, Southport and start at 8pm. The topics for the evenings include slide shows by prominent breeders and exhibitors. The AGM is held in January each year. Shows are held through out the year some of which are part of the evening meetings. Three shows are held on Sundays; the young stock in May, a members show in September and the annual members show in November.
Southport BS has many trophies for members to compete for and these are presented at the last meeting of the year in December.
In 2007 the Society is holding the Golden Bird Open Show at St Cuthberts School, Halsall, Southport. This show was hosted by Southport BS until the early nineties but was discontinued due to lack of membership. Now that we have more members the Society has decided to host this show once again.
