Feeding
We blend our own mix to some extent. To one bag of Better Pets mix we add a quarter bag of plain canary, a quarter bag of mixed millet and approx 5lb of tonic seed. The seeds are blended thoroughly prior to feeding to the birds.
We prefer to use the parakeet blend from Cede for our birds. This blend contains dried insects which the birds love. We originally bought this for Pats Redrumped parakeets. Ian tried it on the budgerigars they went mad for it. This year we have started to add Stock Nutrition 'Spring' at a rate of 1 teaspoon per kilogram to the egg food. This egg food / Spring mixture is fed to the birds daily in finger drawers.
We are using additives in the water. These are Moorgold, Symsol and Boost 250 and Garlic Plus All are obtained from Stock Nutrition. We use them in the following way:
Days 1, 4 & 5: Moorgold diluted 5mls per litre of tap water.
Days 3 & 6: Symsol diluted one quarter teaspoon per 5 pints of tap water.
Day 7: Boost 250 diluted 2 drops per pint of tap water.
We do not boil our water prior to giving it to the birds nor do we use bought bottled water.
Day 2: Garlic Plus: diluted 2.5ml in 5 pints of tap water
